This whaling museum of Madeira is suitably found in the tranquil fishing village of Caniçal. The whaling industry was a large part of the island's life for many years. Whaling has been prohibited in these waters for over 30 years but the legacy of this activity carries on. This museum displays many whaling instruments donated by fishers, a photo history of this now dead livelihood, as well as artwork created out of whale bones and teeth.
