Karting is a variant of open-wheeler motor sport with simple, small four-wheeled vehicles called karts. Karting is commonly perceived as the stepping stone to the higher ranks of motor sports, but they can also be used for hobby or just plain old fun. Karts were originally created in the United States in the 50's, after World War II by airplane pilots, interested in
inventing a sport for their free time. Art Ingels is generally accepted to be the father of karting. A veteran race car builder at Kurtis Kraft, he built the first kart in Southern California in 1956. Karting rapidly spread to other countries, and currently has a large following around the globe.
